After Punch in the face.. Time to get to work...
The end of irrational exuberance… The Chips punched us in the nose.. Its time to get to work.
As I walked out of the stadium yesterday, no one was angry.. no one was pissed off. I didn’t hear one disparaging remark about the Spartans.. Sure there was sadness and disappointment o’plenty.. but the mood was not one of anger. Like in the past….
This is a departure from the Old Days. The Days where after a loss, you would hear from the Spartan faithful, "Damn Spartans", "Same old Spartan", "maybe next year"… what I heard was disappointment, a confusion on why the mental errors on the field, acceptance that this is a long term success story, and that this is probably a single step backwards in a succession of many steps forward.
Don’t think I’m sugar coating a turd. Yes we lost, yes it was a game we should have won. Yes the Chips are a good team, but no atmosphere of anger.
I was there, I took the walk across Well’s Bridge to Giltner lot. Not one soul uttered anger… and there’s good reason why.. what I heard was disappointment clear and simple.
Yeah, thats a bad thing, but its not like the previous administrations…
Things have changed in the Spartan Nation. Yes, SpartyMSU’s predictions were 11 – 0, we were full of hope, and of a season that will come.
Some of What has Changed:
1) We see Discipline and responsibility in the players. You can point to a couple miscues last year with a Spartan on Spartan fight, but for the most part, when spoken to, in the press they take responsibility for they own action on and off the field.
2) Reestablishment of traditions: example is the Spartan Walk, many others.
3) Coaches that are committed to a course of success.
4) Successful recruiting.
5) Logical thought and actions for the Stadium, expansion, movement of Band, expansion of student section, etc.
6) Fans that DEEPLY expect long term success.
7) Successful recruiting.
8) But, most importantly; the Spartan Nation believes in the change and the direction.
9) Many others…….
There has been others, but my point is, this loss, or the looses that will surly follow this year or next, we can’t throw the baby out with the bath water.
Lets pick our selves up and get ready for the Irish, Wisconsin and the Team from AnnArbor.

The punch in the face from Central Michigan hurt, but I am a little less disappointed than I could be, since the balance of the Spartan Nation looks at this as a wake up call, and a sign that all successes in life, business and sports do come with periodic steps backward before we continue to climb the ladder.
Lets beat the IRISH !
Sparty ON !!!
