Latest Aaron Rodgers Rumors on Possible Steelers Return Amid Retirement Buzz, Mike McCarthy Hire

If Aaron Rodgers is going to continue his NFL career, there's still a chance he may remain with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported Sunday that the "odds are increasing" that Rodgers will return to Pittsburgh after the hire of Mike McCarthy as head coach.

Brooke Pryor of ESPN later added that Rodgers is "more likely to come back than not, but I would write that in pencil."

ESPN's Adam Schefter previously reported on January 18 that the Steelers remained "open" to a Rodgers reunion after Mike Tomlin's resignation.

Schefter noted that Rodgers "did not commit to retiring or returning to the Steelers during his conversations with the organization, according to sources, and wants to take time away before deciding his future."

Schefter also reported that "Steelers players are more than open to Rodgers returning to Pittsburgh; they want the four-time league MVP back and conveyed as much to various members of the Steelers organization during their exit meetings last week"

Speaking to reporters after Pittsburgh's playoff loss to the Houston Texans, Rodgers said he was "not going to make any emotional decisions" when asked about his playing future.

Rodgers did say last summer after signing with the Steelers that he was "pretty sure" 2025 would be the final year of his career. He has sounded open to continuing his career as the season went on.

Prior to Pittsburgh's Week 18 game, Rodgers said there might be "one or two" interested in signing him "if I decide I still want to play."

This season wasn't exactly a return to form for Rodgers. He finished 23rd out of 28 qualified quarterbacks in QBR. His .02 EPA per play ranked 22nd out of 37 quarterbacks who played at least 250 snaps.

Rodgers' overall numbers this season were solid with 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 16 starts. He helped the Steelers win the AFC North for the first time since 2020.
