Latest NFL Rumors on Eagles Targeting QBs in 2026 NFL Draft After Jalen Hurts' 2025 Struggles

Timothy RappJan 16, 2026

When the Philadelphia Eagles drafted Jalen Hurts in the second round of the 2020 draft it came as a pretty major surprise, given that Carson Wentz was the team's starter and had signed a four-year, $128 million extension in 2019.

The rest is history. Hurts took over as the full-time starter by the 2021 season, Wentz was traded and the Eagles have reached two Super Bowls and won a title since.

But could the Birds make a similar move this offseason after underachieving massively on the offensive side of the ball in 2025?

According to Mike Silver of The Athletic, "Some NFL sources familiar with the Eagles' organizational mindset believe they might draft a quarterback this spring; backup Tanner McKee, a 2023 sixth-round selection, is also highly regarded within the building."

He did add, however, that Hurts "likely isn't going anywhere anytime soon" given that he's still under contract for three more years.

The 27-year-old threw for 3,224 yards, 25 touchdowns and six interceptions this past season, completing 64.8 percent of his passes while rushing for 421 yards and eight scores. The numbers look solid, though Philly's offense was inconsistent at best (and certainly predictable) for most of the season. Some of that falls on Hurts limitations as a passer.

Time will tell if adding a more established offensive coordinator will help the team's offense right the ship after the disastrous Kevin Patullo experiment. But as Silver reported, Hurts has "been the source of much internal frustration, including from teammates other than Brown."

The Eagles will need growth from their franchise quarterback as well in 2026. If they doubt his ability to do so, it wouldn't be a shock if they invested in a contingency plan.
