Bills' Josh Allen Hyped as 'Superman' by NFL Exec Ahead of Playoff Matchup vs. Bo Nix, Broncos
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen received immense praise from an NFL insider prior to Saturday's AFC Divisional Round playoff game against the Denver Broncos.
Speaking to Jeff Howe of The Athletic, an anonymous NFL executive referenced Allen by saying, "Superman is coming out."
Although he has yet to reach a Super Bowl during his eight-year NFL career, Allen is statistically one of the greatest playoff quarterbacks of all time, and he was at it again last week.
On the road against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC Wild Card Round, Allen completed 28 of his 35 passing attempts for 273 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. He also rushed for 33 yards and two scores in Buffalo's 27-24 win.
Allen's 309.5 total yards per game are the most in NFL history by a quarterback with at least 10 playoff starts. He has also accounted for 35 total touchdowns, while throwing only four interceptions.
The biggest issue for Allen and the Bills in the playoffs has been the Kansas City Chiefs, who have eliminated them in four of the past five seasons. The Chiefs are not standing in their way this time around, though.
On paper, the Broncos have several advantages Saturday, including the fact that they are playing at home and coming off a bye against a team playing on a short week.
Also, Denver ranked second in the NFL in total defense and third in scoring defense, and it led the league with 68 sacks.
Allen does have the benefit of the NFL's leading rusher in running back James Cook, who rushed for 1,621 yards during the regular season, but he has a dearth of options in the passing game.
An already weak receiving corps saw both Gabe Davis and Tyrell Shavers go down with torn ACLs last week, leaving Khalil Shakir, Brandin Cooks and Keon Coleman as the only healthy wideouts on the active roster.
Despite that, there are question marks regarding whether the Broncos will be able to capitalize with second-year quarterback Bo Nix leading the way.
Nix is off to a good start, accounting for over 4,000 total yards and 30 or more touchdowns in each of his first two seasons. He is also 24-10 as a starter with two playoff appearances.
However, Nix is not particularly battle tested, unlike Allen, who has reached the playoffs in seven consecutive seasons.
Last season, Buffalo blew out Denver 31-7 in the Wild Card Round, and Allen far outplayed Nix. It is fair to wonder if things could be different this time around, though, with the Broncos at home, well rested and largely healthy.
