Arum: Pacquiao 'Not Ducking' Khan
Tuesday, Aug. 11
"This kid Amir Khan keeps shooting his mouth off about Manny Pacquiao," said Arum, relayed by Gareth A. Davies of the Telegraph. "I can arrange for Khan to fight Pacquiao."
Arum continued:
"Amir Khan has been begging Mayweather for a fight and now he can get a major fight. I'm not a hard guy to deal with. I'm not going to mess them around.
One thing's for sure, Pacquiao is not ducking Khan. Pacquiao will fight him. I don't know if Khan will fight Pacquiao, but it's available.
There's two different groups in the Middle East (wanting to host the fight). I'd like to do Pacquiao against Amir Khan but they'll take Manny against any decent guy.
"
Arum also confirmed, "Manny's not going to fight this year" as he continues to recover from the shoulder injury he suffered during his May loss to Mayweather.
Khan Talks up Pacquiao Clash
Friday, July 31
"I think that fight would be amazing for me," Khan said, per Sport360.com (via Scott Gilfoid of BoxingNews24.com). "Styles make fights, and that’s another fight that would suit me as well."
Pacquiao will need to choose his next opponent carefully after putting in a tame effort to halt Mayweather's unbeaten run. The Filipino would fancy his chances against Khan's chin—often referred to as "glass" by the Brit's doubters—but Khan's speed and accuracy would pose the 36-year-old Pacquiao unique problems.
Arum's comments provide the biggest indication yet that a bout could go ahead, but the former sparring partners will need to agree terms before a headline fight is announced.
