Fred Warner Injury Update, Latest on Status for 49ers vs. Seahawks NFL Playoff Game Amid Ankle Rehab
San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fred Warner will remain out for Saturday's divisional round matchup with the Seattle Seahawks, head coach Kyle Shanahan said Thursday.
Shanahan indicated the Niners are still hoping to get Warner back in time for a potential trip to the NFC Championship game.
"Yes, I do feel confident in that," Shanahan said, when asked if he felt Warner had put himself in a position to return by the NFC title game. "We'll see if it works out."
Warner has not played since suffering a broken and dislocated right ankle on Oct. 12.
The 49ers will be without him for a 13th straight contest when kicking off Saturday's playoff game at 8 p.m. ET in Seattle.
The NFC Championship game is set to take place eight days later on Sunday, Jan. 25.
Shanahan also said Warner hadn't suffered a setback since rejoining practice in a limited capacity on Tuesday and Wednesday.
When asked how Warner looked during Wednesday's practice, Shanahan said the linebacker "looked good."
Warner was also present at Thursday's practice but wasn't seen participating in any drills, according to reporters including CBS Sports' Matt Lively.
The 49ers opened Warner's practice window on on Jan. 13, just under three months after he underwent surgery on what Shanahan originally described as a season-ending injury.
Warner didn't shut down the idea of potentially returning for Saturday's divisional round game when speaking to reporters earlier this week, although he did note Wednesday he wasn't "going to go out there and put myself at an added risk if I'm not ready."
"Everything up to this point has been in direct communication with the doctors, the trainers, everybody involved with my surgery," Warner said Wednesday, per NFL.com's Grant Gordon. "Nothing up to this point has been done just out of just, 'Hey man, let's just go out and do it.'
The 49ers will also be playing this weekend without star tight end George Kittle, who suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in last Sunday's Wild Card win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
Fullback Kyle Juszczyk, who has taken on some of Kittle's workload during his absences in the past, could see more involvement in the 49ers' passing scheme without Kittle.
Eric Kendricks will meanwhile be called on to start in Warner's absence as the Niners look to extend their postseason with a win over the Seahawks.
