AFC Divisional Round Predictions

3 of 4
Bills Jaguars Football

Buffalo Bills at Denver Broncos (Saturday, 4:30 p.m. EST)

The Denver Broncos allowed the third-fewest points per game this season with 18.3 and were the tenth-ranked offense in the league, averaging 342.6 yards and 23.6 points per game. On the surface, they are a superior team to the Bills squad that will travel to Empower Field at Mile High for the first divisional round game of the playoffs.

The other team, though, has a Josh Allen driven to get over the hump and silence his doubters by finally advancing to the Super Bowl. His receiver corps is decimated, but the presence of Brandin Cooks allows him to stretch the field while the Bills can also lean on the league's leading rusher, James Cook, to take the pressure off the former league MVP.

The Broncos are better at nearly every position entering this match-up, but the Bills have the better quarterback and an insatiable hunger to reach their first Super Bowl since 1994. That Denver tends to keep it close, winning 11 games by one score or less, means Buffalo will have its chances to pull off the upset late.

Prediction: Buffalo wins by three

Houston Texans at New England Patriots (Sunday, 3:00 p.m. EST)

The New England Patriots scored just 16 points in their Wild Card victory over Los Angeles, despite totaling 381 yards against the Chargers' defense. If that same Patriots offense shows up against Houston, Drake Maye and Mike Vrabel's squad could be ripe for an upset.

Houston has the stingiest defense in the league, allowing just 277.2 yards and 17.4 points per game. Opposing teams average just 183.5 passing yards and 93.7 rushing yards, making it a long day for the offense. They completely shut down the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday, winning 30-6.

Led by head coach Demeco Ryans and cornerback Derek Stingley Jr., the Texans are built to defeat New England and advance to their first AFC Championship Game in franchise history.

Prediction: Houston shuts down New England, wins by 6

NFC Divisional Round Predictions

San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks (Saturday, 8:00 p.m. EST)

The Seattle Seahawks look like the most complete team in the NFL and understandably are the Super Bowl favorites. They enter their first playoff game of the postseason riding a seven-game win streak and have outscored opponents 483-292. Their defense limited the same 49ers team they will play Saturday night to just three points in a Week 18 match-up that netted them the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye.

But...the Seahawks also have Sam Darnold at quarterback and while he has is leading his second team of 13 wins or more into the postseason in as many years, he also has a history of turning the ball over or taking big sacks when he can least afford them.

Darnold threw 14 interceptions in 2025, meaning he remains susceptible to turnovers. He was sacked nine times in a playoff loss to the Rams last year. The 49ers staff is likely aware of both of those stats, and if they are confident enough in the players they still have healthy, do not be surprised to see an aggressive game plan from coordinator Robert Saleh as he attempts to force Darnold into ill-advised plays.

It may be an uphill climb, but there is a path for the injury-riddled 49ers to advance to the NFC Championship game. Pressure Darnold, take advantage of the hairy situations you put him in, and the San Francisco can pull off another monumental upset.

Unfortunately, their lack of available depth at key positions, both offensively and defensively, may be too much against a team that has been dominant all season long.

Prediction: Seahawks win by 10

Los Angeles Rams at Chicago Bears (Sunday, 6:30 p.m. EST)

The Rams and Bears both scored come-from-behind wins in the Wild Card and in Sunday's marquee match-up, have the opportunity to provide fans with another dramatic, offense-heavy game.

Much will be made of the cold temperatures and the effect the weather has on the players, but Chicago overcame Green Bay in snow last week and the Rams nearly knocked off eventual Super Bowl champions Philadelphia in a cold and snow last year in the divisional round.

Caleb Williams is the least accurate quarterback in the playoffs, but he has a knack for the dramatic and has repeatedly made big plays when necessary throughout this season. If the Bears can keep it close, or not, if last week's 18-point, come-from-behind win is any indication, he can will his team into a comeback victory.

The question will be whether the Bears defense can hang with the Rams' offense.

Statistically, the Bears defense was the fourth-worst in the league in the regular season, yielding 361.8 yards per game and 24.4 points. It allowed 421 yards and 27 points against Green Bay in the Wild Card.

Until that unit proves it can slow an offense down, let alone the most prolific offense of 2025, it is difficult to confidently pick them to outlast Matthew Stafford and company.

Prediction: Los Angeles by 3
