Angel Di Maria Reportedly Fined by Manchester United Amid PSG Transfer Rumours
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is "fuming" over Angel Di Maria's failure to join the Red Devils' pre-season tour of North America and will fine the Argentinian winger two weeks' wages, according to Jeremy Cross of the Daily Star.
Cross broke the news that Di Maria stands to lose £360,000 for his absence after being given an extended rest following the Copa America. Van Gaal is angry that Di Maria has "tarnished the club's reputation" by essentially forcing through a move to Paris Saint-Germain after just one season at Old Trafford.
"Maybe you know where he is? I don't know," said Van Gaal, per Cross. You Tube fan channel Full Time Devils reacted accordingly:

Jack Watts of the Star expects Van Gaal to now enforce his "trademark discipline" on the British-record signing, who has failed to justify his £59.7 million tag with the Premier League club.
Cross suggested a £45 million deal will be finalised for Di Maria to leave, with B/R UK's Jonathan Johnson providing the details on his personal terms:
PSG will offer Di Maria a second attempt at making it after Real Madrid. He has the quality to improve any team in the world, but manager Laurent Blanc needs to settle him in one position after a frustrating spell of rotation under Van Gaal.

The Dutchman played Di Maria on the left wing, in central midfield, behind the striker and even up front before placing him on the bench. He could make a real impact on the left of Blanc's 4-3-3, but this would mean shifting Edinson Cavani elsewhere or sacrificing Zlatan Ibrahimovic to move the Uruguayan into a striker's role. It may be a case of having to squeeze everyone in for Blanc.
United are likely to reinvest some of the fee they receive for Di Maria on Barcelona's Pedro Rodriguez, reported Cross. Occasional B/R columist Guillem Balague reported comments from Barca boss Luis Enrique:
Pedro is a loyal, hard-working player whose Blaugrana career has come to a natural end because of the brilliance of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez. There's no embarrassment in that. He contributed to the very last and has the quality to showcase his talent in England.

Di Maria is set to leave Manchester without showing his match-winning ability on a consistent basis. However, the reported fine is a reminder he perhaps isn't committed to Van Gaal and the United cause. Players must be focused and ready to sacrifice themselves during this transitional time for the club. If it's proven Di Maria has gone absent without leave, it could be more an indication of his character, not United's.
The saga has rolled on all summer, so its conclusion will no doubt be a relief for all. Di Maria can be expected to enjoy his time in Ligue 1 if a move is confirmed.
He is now a closely watched man, someone who needs to perform as soon as the new season starts if he's to swerve the tag of becoming one of football's biggest flops.
