Reflecting on How Much NFL, World Has Changed Since Mike Tomlin Was Hired as Steelers HC in 2007

Mike Tomlin's time with the Pittsburgh Steelers came to an end on Tuesday.

Tomlin stepped down as Pittsburgh's head coach, a position that he held since 2007. He was the longest-tenured head coach in the NFL prior to his departure.

The NFL landscape and world as a whole was vastly different in 2006, the year before Tomlin joined the Steelers.

Bill Cowher previously served as Pittsburgh's head coach from 1992 through 2006, while Chuck Noll held the position from 1969-91.

The Steelers wrapped up a 10-7 finish during their 2025 season, clinching the AFC North title before suffering a 30-6 loss against the Houston Texans in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.
