Despite previous rumors to the contrary, the third match in the Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes WrestleMania trilogy is reportedly off for WrestleMania 42 this year.

According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t WrestlePurists), Reigns vs. Rhodes is "probably not happening" at WrestleMania 42 on the heels of Rhodes dropping the WWE Championship to Drew McIntyre in a Three Stages of Hell match last week on SmackDown.

Meltzer added that the WrestleMania plans changed last Wednesday when the decision was made by WWE creative to have McIntyre beat Rhodes for the title.

Coming out of Survivor Series in November, the groundwork was seemingly laid for Reigns and Rhodes to clash at some point, although Meltzer (h/t WrestlePurists) reported that it wasn't guaranteed the match would take place at WrestleMania 42.

After Reigns' team lost a WarGames match, Reigns took out his frustration on Rhodes, remarking that he would never team with him again. That came after Reigns teased going for either Rhodes' WWE Championship or CM Punk's World Heavyweight Championship during an episode of Raw.

If Reigns vs. Rhodes is no longer in the cards for WrestleMania 42, it is difficult to say where a top star like Reigns fits in.

It is always possible that WWE could work something out with The Rock and finally deliver the Reigns vs. Rock match that fans have been clamoring for, but that is never guaranteed given The Rock's busy schedule.

Another possibility would rely on the return of Seth Rollins in enough time to build toward and compete in a WrestleMania match.

When Meltzer initially reported on Reigns vs. Rhodes possibly happening at WrestleMania 42, he mentioned Reigns vs. Rollins as a potential alternative plan.

Rollins has been out of action since October due to a shoulder injury, but if he can make it back before WrestleMania, a match against Reigns would make sense given their history and the fact that they have never had a one-on-one match on the Grandest Stage of Them All.

WWE Reportedly May Consider Rhodes vs. McIntyre vs. Fatu

Given the controversial finish of last week's Three Stages of Hell match on SmackDown, a Triple Threat between Rhodes, McIntyre and Fatu reportedly could be in the works.

Meltzer (h/t WrestlePurists) reported that WWE "may be" doing a Triple Threat match between Rhodes, McIntyre and Fatu for the WWE Championship after the decision was reportedly made to scrap Rhodes vs. Reigns at WrestleMania.

However, Meltzer added that Rhodes vs. McIntyre vs. Fatu is not "100 percent" happening, and even if it does, there is no guarantee it will take place at WrestleMania 42.

During the final stage of Three Stages of Hell, which was a steel cage match, Fatu made a surprise appearance and stopped McIntyre from exiting the cage.

McIntyre and Fatu duked it out inside the ring, but when Rhodes tried to break it up, Fatu focused his attention on The American Nightmare and attacked him, which allowed Drew to escape and win the title.

Prior to last week's SmackDown, Fatu had not been seen on WWE programming since October when he got attacked backstage prior to a scheduled No. 1 contender's match between him and McIntyre.

While it was widely believed that McIntyre was the culprit behind the attack, the fact that Rhodes quickly confronted McIntyre after it led to some speculation that Rhodes may have been the attacker.

Inserting Fatu into the Rhodes vs. McIntyre feud could allow that storyline to be explored even more, and there is seemingly enough heat between all three Superstars to warrant a WrestleMania match if the creative team wants to go in that direction.

Updates on Vaquer's Injury, Return Timeline

Stephanie Vaquer is reportedly not expected to miss much more time before being cleared for in-ring activity.

Vaquer has worn a walking boot on Raw the past couple of weeks, and Meltzer (h/t Jamie Toolan of WrestleTalk.com) reported that while her injury is legitimate, it is also minor.

Meltzer added that Vaquer and Raquel Rodriguez were originally supposed to face each other "in the next two weeks," and while he isn't sure if it will still happen during that time frame, the expectation is that Vaquer will be "cleared pretty quick."

Vaquer recently had a successful Women's World Championship defense against Rodriguez and Nikki Bella in a Triple Threat, but she came out of it worse for wear, as evidenced by the walking boot.

On each of the past two episodes of Raw, Vaquer has been on the receiving end of an attack at the hands of Rodriguez, so it is clear that a one-on-one match is being built between them.

It isn't yet clear if that match will happen on Raw, the upcoming Saturday Night's Main Event in Montreal or even the Royal Rumble premium live event in Saudi Arabia.

Regardless of when it happens, WWE has done an effective job of creating heat between Vaquer and Rodriguez, thus making the most out of what could have been a negative situation with La Primera nursing an injury.
