Texans' Calen Bullock Hypes Team's Defense as NFL's Best After Dominant Showing vs. Steelers

Adam WellsJan 13, 2026

If defense does win championships, the Houston Texans are set up very well to get to Levi's Stadium on Feb. 8 after an impressive showing in their 30-6 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Wild Card game.

Texans safety Calen Bullock told reporters after the game that "everybody knows we are the best defense" in the NFL.

"The whole world knows that," he said. "Every time we go out there we show it and we went out there and showed it today. I don't even think they scored a touchdown."

Monday's win was a good argument in Bullock's favor. Houston allowed just 175 total yards, 2.9 yards per pass attempt and recorded two defensive touchdowns against the Steelers.

There was certainly a strong argument for the Texans as having the league's top defense coming into the playoffs. They finished the regular season ranked first in yards allowed per game, total EPA, EPA per pass and second in points allowed.

The Seattle Seahawks were the only team that had a better scoring defense than Houston, but the margin between the two was only three points (292 to 295).

Per FTN Fantasy's DVOA rankings, the Texans ranked second behind Seattle in defense. They held the Los Angeles Rams to their lowest point total in the regular season (14 in Week 1). It was just one of two games that the Rams failed to score at least 21 points.

Monday night marked the 12th time in 18 games that Houston has held an opponent to fewer than 20 points.

When you add it all together, the Texans certainly have a defense that is capable of getting them to a Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history. Their next step on the way there is against the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium on Sunday.

The Texans are 0-2 against the Patriots in the playoffs all-time, but their last meeting was in January 2017 when Brock Osweiler was their starting quarterback.
