He also downplayed any issues with his broken left hand:
Head coach Jim Harbaugh offered a slightly different assessment of Herbert's broken hand.
"It's an issue," he told reporters. "He doesn't flinch... like a warrior would."
He may not have flinched, but he spent plenty of Sunday night either running for his life or planted on the ground, as the Patriots sacked him six times and forced him to fumble twice, losing one. Herbert finished just 19-of-31 for 159 yards, as his receivers struggled to create space against New England's secondary and a patchwork offensive line struggled to protect him.
Herbert didn't have a ton of help against the Patriots, but he also wasn't great himself, and that's become a theme in his career—he's now 0-3 in the playoffs. It's now a narrative and he knows it:
Herbert is only 27 and has plenty of football ahead of him, so the current narrative is hardly etched in stone. But Sunday night was a performance he'd probably be happy to forget.
