Ben Johnson, Matt LaFleur's Handshake Video Goes Viral as NFL Fans Sound Off

Scott PolacekJan 11, 2026

There doesn't seem to be much love lost between Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson and Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur.

Following the Bears' unbelievable 31-27 comeback victory over their rival in Saturday's NFC Wild Card Round showdown, Johnson's drive-by handshake of LaFleur certainly caught the attention of fans and viewers:

As Joe Rivera of USA Today noted, their "midfield meetings have been light on the banter this season, and decreasingly short in length."

Saturday's was the shortest, which led to plenty of reaction from social media:

Chicago and Green Bay make up arguably the NFL's most heated rivalry, and Saturday's game was an emotional one. The Bears overcame a 21-3 halftime deficit and 21-6 fourth-quarter deficit, and Johnson was surely excited to get into the locker room and celebrate with his team.

In fact, he even said "f--k the Packers" during that celebration:

But there may be something else to the relationship with Johnson and LaFleur beyond just the rivalry. Rivera pointed out Johnson used his introductory press conference ahead of the 2025 season to say, "To be quite frank with you, I kinda enjoyed beating Matt LaFleur twice a year."

He was familiar with the Packers from his time as the offensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions, but being the head coach of the Bears puts the rivalry into far more of a spotlight.

And he and Chicago delivered with 25 points in the fourth quarter to complete a comeback that will resonate in the Windy City for decades.

He also earned his second win over LaFleur this season as a result.
