Matt Ryan Laments Falcons' Playoff Drought, Talks Vision as New Exec in Video After Contract

Retired quarterback Matt Ryan laid out his initial vision after the Atlanta Falcons hired him as their new president of football.

Thanks to his on-air role with CBS Sports, Ryan was afforded a platform with which to address his move to Atlanta's front office. The four-time Pro Bowler emphasized his desire to end an eight-year playoff drought:

"The good part is that we're coming out of your mouth and we're talking about them at this time of the year," he said (via Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site). "I think that is the vision for where we want to be. You want to be in the mix, in the playoffs and it has been too long there. We're going to work really hard and find the right people to get us back into that position to be successful."

Ryan doesn't have an executive-level experience in the NFL, but he's plenty familiar with the setup in Atlanta after spending 14 seasons with the Falcons as a player. He's the runaway franchise leader in passing yards (59,735) and touchdown passes (367).

By working for CBS Sports following his retirement, the 40-year-old also remained close to the NFL and saw how the league is evolving.

Ryan will have his opportunity to put a stamp on the Falcons as they're in need of a new head coach and general manager after firing Raheem Morris and Terry Fontenot.

The 2016 NFL MVP is clearly going into the role with a sense of purpose.
