Latest Giants HC Search Rumors on John Harbaugh, GM Schoen's 'Relentless' Pursuit

Paul KasabianJan 10, 2026

It's no secret via multiple reports that the New York Giants want former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh to be Big Blue's next head coach.

Now comes word from Ian O'Connor of The Athletic that general manager Joe Schoen has spoken with Harbaugh and played the part of a "relentless, John Calipari-level recruiter" in hopes of convincing him to head to New York.

SNY's Connor Hughes previously reported that the Giants are "all-in" on Harbaugh.

O'Connor previously reported Thursday that Harbaugh is "very interested" in the Giants' gig.

The Giants have missed the playoffs in 12 of their last 14 seasons and won just one postseason game during that span. Meanwhile, Harbaugh just finished an 18-year tenure with the Ravens that featured him lead Baltimore to 12 playoff appearances, six AFC North titles and a Super Bowl victory.

Naturally, that amount of success entices a Giants team that has particularly fallen on hard times of late, with records of 6-11, 3-14 and 4-13 over their last three seasons. New York fired head coach Brian Daboll after a 2-8 start this year (20-40-1 overall).

The Giants certainly have some exciting players for a head coach to work with, namely quarterback Jaxson Dart, who accounted for 24 total touchdowns (15 passing, nine rushing) in 12 starts and provided a much-needed spark. It seems like the Giants have solved a QB problem that plagues other teams, and that could be a plus for any coach out there right now.

Of course, six other teams (minus the Ravens) have coach openings in the Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, Miami Dolphins, Cleveland Browns, Las Vegas Raiders and Tennessee Titans. Jay Glazer of Fox Sports provided an update on Harbaugh relative to other teams' interest.

It's possible one of those other squads entices Harbaugh more, but the Giants are clearly making their best push to get him aboard.
