During the pre-game festivities outside Bank of America Stadium, Newton was introduced much to the delight of the fans, and he got on the microphone to encourage them to get even louder:
Newton's appearance came after the Panthers teased earlier this week that he would be on hand for the game:
The 36-year-old Newton is widely regarded as the greatest quarterback in Panthers history.
Over the course of 10 seasons and two separate stints with the Panthers from 2011 to 2019 and again in 2021, Newton posted a 68-60-1 record, while completing 59.4 percent of his passes for 29,725 yards, 186 touchdowns and 115 interceptions. He was also one of the best running quarterbacks of all time with 5,036 yards and 63 touchdowns on the ground as a Panther.
Newton was a three-time Pro Bowler and one-time First Team All-Pro who won NFL MVP honors in 2015 when he led the Panthers to a 15-1 record and a Super Bowl appearance.
This season, few expected the Panthers to reach the playoffs, but they made it by virtue of winning the NFC South with an 8-9 record.
Although quarterback Bryce Young and the Panthers are home underdogs against the Rams on Saturday, they already beat the Rams once this season in Week 13.
