NFL Rumors on Matt LaFleur's Future as Packers HC Amid Contract Extension Talks
Despite recent rumblings about Matt LaFleur's future, the Green Bay Packers intend to work out a new contract with their head coach in the offseason.
Per NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, Packers management is planning to engage in extension talks with LaFleur after their season ends with a "mutual goal" of getting a deal done.
Questions about LaFleur's future date back to the summer when new Packers president Ed Policy told reporters that he wouldn't talk to the coach or general manager Brian Gutekunst about an extension.

Within the same press conference, Policy did state he is "generally opposed" to a head coach and general manager working with one year remaining on their contracts.
The 2026 season will mark the final year of their current deals for both LaFleur and Gutekunst, but some concerns have popped up recently about whether or not the Packers will meet LaFleur's asking price.
ESPN's Adam Schefter said in a radio interview on Wednesday that the Packers "absolutely" want LaFleur back and he wants to remain in Green Bay, but it has to be on a deal that works "for both sides."
Entering the 2024 season, LaFleur was the 19th-highest-paid head coach with a $5 million average annual salary. There were 11 coaches making at least $13 million at the start of this season, including first-year head coach Ben Johnson with the Chicago Bears.
It's not implausible the Packers could look to make a change at head coach if they lose their first playoff game on Saturday against the Bears, but the franchise doesn't historically make impulsive decisions like that.
LaFleur is in his seventh season as Packers head coach. Their 76-40-1 regular-season record since 2019 is the third-best in the NFL, but they are just 3-5 in the playoffs with no Super Bowl appearances during that span.
