Daily Fantasy Baseball 2015: Top DraftKings Bargains, Strategy for July 31

Rob GoldbergJul 31, 2015

No matter what happens heading into the MLB trade deadline, you can still be successful in daily fantasy baseball if you pick the right players. For every big-name addition to your lineup, though, you need to counter it with some cheaper selections.

Here is a look at some of the best bargain picks around the league for July 31.

Taylor Jungmann, SP, Milwaukee Brewers ($7,500)

Although the Milwaukee Brewers have struggled, one of the bright spots on the season has been the play of rookie pitcher Taylor Jungmann. In nine career starts, the 25-year-old starter has put together a 5-2 record with a 2.14 ERA and a .210 batting average against.

Jungmann has been even better as of late with a 1.50 ERA through four starts in July, only once allowing more than a single run. Against a Chicago Cubs lineup that strikes out more frequently than anyone else in baseball, the rookie can come through with another gem.

David Phelps, SP, Miami Marlins ($5,300)

This has been a weird year for David Phelps, who has spent time in the bullpen lately and hasn't earned a win in almost a month and a half. However, he has pitched well lately (2.57 ERA in July) and always seems to pitch well in the spacious Marlins Park.

In five of his six home starts in 2015, Phelps has gone at least six innings while allowing two or fewer runs. He also has 30 strikeouts and just seven walks in these games. There is no reason he can't keep this up against an inconsistent San Diego Padres offense.

Kolten Wong, 2B, St. Louis Cardinals ($4,100)

Colorado Rockies starter Kyle Kendrick has been objectively awful this season. Not only does he have a 6.33 ERA with an embarrassing 25 home runs allowed, he isn't improving either. The veteran has given up 12 runs (11 earned) in 9.1 innings over the past two games.

This makes just about everyone in a Cardinals uniform a good start in fantasy, but especially Kolten Wong, thanks to his extra power against right-handed pitchers. His performance at a premium position could provide a boost to your team.

Melky Cabrera, OF, Chicago White Sox ($3,900)

The Chicago White Sox have been the hottest team in baseball, and Melky Cabrera is a big reason. The outfielder has awoken at the plate and seemingly can't stop getting hits and RBI, causing Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports to ponder the important question:

While this might be going a bit far, you should take advantage of this hot stretch and get value for Cabrera before his price gets out of hand.

Didi Gregorius, SS, New York Yankees ($2,900)

Although everyone likes hitting in Texas, the past series was extremely encouraging for Didi Gregorius. The most impressive part was his work against southpaws, including a 7-for-9 stretch with seven RBI in two games against left-handed starters.

The Yankees should now be able to trust the left-handed shortstop in these circumstances, which could allow him to have another big day against Friday's starter Carlos Rodon. The Chicago White Sox rookie has shown flashes of brilliance, but has also been beaten up for five or more runs in three occasions already this year.

With the way New York has hit the ball this year, Gregorius could be in the middle of another strong offensive output.
