Ravens OC Todd Monken Talks Lamar Jackson Relationship on Video Amid NFL Rumors

Timothy RappJan 8, 2026

Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken admitted during an appearance on the Ryan Ripken Show on Thursday that he could have fostered a better relationship with superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson.

"I didn't coach Lamar well enough," he said. "I didn't have as good of a relationship as I could've. I didn't do the things that we needed this year to win enough games to give ourselves a chance. And I believe that, I'm not just saying that because I'm on your show. And I'm gonna fight like hell to fix it. I'm gonna fight like hell for the next job I get, and I'm gonna root like hell for the Ravens."

Those didn't sound like remarks from a man who expects to return to Baltimore next season, and for good reason—new head coaches generally prefer to install their own coaching staff.

But he's also received interest from other teams, both as a potential head coach and offensive coordinator:

And there's also the possibility that Monken might simply follow former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh to his next team. Harbaugh is currently the biggest name on the market.

While Baltimore's offense took a step back in 2025, Monken led that unit to the fourth most points in the NFL in 2023 and the sixth most yards. The 2024 season was even better—the Ravens finished first in yards and third in points.

But something shifted in 2025. Jackson's injuries certainly played a part, but Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic reported that "the dynamic between Harbaugh, Monken and Jackson had grown awkward, particularly this season when there seemed to be weekly confusion about whether Jackson would or wouldn't practice. Harbaugh was often the buffer between Monken and Jackson, whose personalities didn't always mesh."

But Monken won't be without a job for long. His coaching résumé is long, including stops as the offensive coordinator for Oklahoma State (2011-12), the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2016-18), the Cleveland Browns (2019), the Georgia Bulldogs (2020-22) and the Ravens (2023-present). He was also the head coach at Southern Mississippi (2013-15).

His next stop remains to be seen. But his inability to better connect with Jackson seemingly necessitated a change.
