Nick Eatman of DallasCowboys.com passed along the news of McClain's status, while Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram noted that McClain can practice this week prior to the start of his four-game suspension.
Following his activation, head coach Jason Garrett said McClain will in fact participate in individual drills at practice this week, via Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
On Aug. 27, Hill reported that McClain was nearing a full return to practice after working out in pads for the first time.
David Helman of DallasCowboys.com shared a video of McClain working out as the Cowboys went through a walkthrough:
It was the latest step in his recovery, as Joe Trahan of WFAA.com provided an image on Aug. 10 of McClain at practice:
McClain revived his career with America's Team last season, helping to fill the void left by injured linebacker Sean Lee with 81 combined tackles and two interceptions in 13 games and making the Cowboys defense playoff-ready.
Now he is dealing with health issues of his own after doing so at the end of 2014 and into the postseason as well.
Williams weighed in on McClain's absence and that of Keith Rivers, whose retirement was announced in an earlier tweet:
There isn't a very urgent need to bring McClain back onto the field. As Williams noted, he has been suspended for the first four games of 2015 for violating the league's substance abuse policy.
As long as Lee is healthy enough to contribute, he can step up for McClain. Cowboys fans have to be eagerly anticipating the time when both talented players can be on the gridiron together.
