Vlad Chiriches to Napoli: Latest Transfer Details, Reaction and More

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed they have come to an agreement with Napoli for the sale of Vlad Chiriches to the Serie A club. 

The north London giants took to social media to say farewell to the player, who departs after just two years at White Hart Lane:

The 25-year-old joined Spurs from legendary Romanian club Steaua Bucharest for a reported £8.5 million in 2013, per BBC Sport, but the player failed to make the predicted impact in the Premier League. 

The defender has been with Napoli since Tuesday, but club coach Maurizio Sarri has admitted to knowing little about Chiriches until his arrival in Italy this past week, per La Repubblica (h/t Ben Gladwell of ESPNFC.co.uk):

I only saw him [Chiriches] play once six months ago and I know very little about him. 

But if he's been signed, it must mean he's got quality. I'll make up my own mind about him in the weeks to come. 

It's not a habit of mine to make specific transfer demands to my club. All I do is suggest the characteristics I need in a player.

Chiriches made only 10 EPL appearances for the White Hart Lane club last term, per Squawka.com, and seemed to lack the depth of quality needed for a team with Champions League aspirations. 

The Romanian national captain will find life in Italy more agreeable with the slower pace of the game and the reduced competition against the division's lower clubs. 

The EPL was too much for the defender, but Spurs rightfully had high hopes for him when he arrived in England. 

Chiriches is a good player, but not a great one. He has a good amount of quality on the ball—and this should see him thrive in Serie A.
