NFL Draft 2026 Scouting Report for Miami DL Ahmad Moten Sr.
Ahmad Moten Sr. possesses unique quickness and athleticism for his position, demonstrating acceleration off the line of scrimmage to create penetration and lateral movement to be an effective pass-rusher. Any team looking for a gap-shooter on the interior should be interested in the 6'3", 300-pound defensive tackle.
Coming out of high school as a 3-star recruit in the 2022 class, Moten played in two games and redshirted during his first year at Miami. He received limited playing time in year two, participating in nine games and only making two tackles, but he did manage to record an interception.
The Fort Lauderdale, Fla. native was a bigger part of the Hurricanes' defensive line rotation in 2023, playing in all 13 games with two starts and posting 18 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, a sack, and two passes defended.
This past season was the second-team All-ACC performer's breakout campaign, becoming a full-time starter and registering 25 tackles, eight TFLs, and 4.5 sacks (as of Jan. 6) despite missing two contests with an undisclosed injury. He also left the playoff game against Ohio State early with an injury.

Where He Wins
1 of 4
- Moten is a good overall athlete for a defensive tackle, showing good acceleration and lateral movement skills.
- Combined with his burst off the line of scrimmage, he's quick off the ball to get penetration and shoot gaps off the snap.
- Shows the quickness and agility to beat interior offensive linemen across their faces when rushing the passer. Also, has decent hand swipe and swim moves, and is solid at working the offensive lineman's hands.
- Movement skills allow him to be an effective looper on line games/twists, both as a pass-rusher and against the run.
- When he keeps his pads down and shoots his hands, he's flashed some knockback power as a run defender.
- Good at running his feet and has the agility to avoid getting reached or scooped.
Areas of Improvement
2 of 4
- Moten appears to have shorter arms, limiting how much extension he can get when taking on blocks against the run.
- Struggles to shed blocks due to the limited extension and violence when trying to escape, leading to him getting stuck frequently.
- Has subpar lower body strength and has a hard time sinking his hips to anchor and stay in his gap against double teams/combos and down blocks.
- Inconsistent pad level off the line of scrimmage, making it difficult for him to win with power or when bull rushing as a pass-rusher.
- Lacks some bend to corner at the top of the rush, leading to missed opportunities for sacks when quarterbacks step up in the pocket.
