John Harbaugh's Ravens Firing Shocks NFL Fans, Creates Giants HC Buzz

Andrew PetersJan 6, 2026

After 18 seasons at the helm, John Harbaugh is out as the Baltimore Ravens' head coach.

Harbaugh won a championship with the Ravens in 2012, but has failed to reach those heights in the years since. Baltimore finished 8-9 in 2025, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2020.

While fans knew Harbaugh's firing was a possibility, it still shocked the NFL world.

Before being fired, Harbaugh was the second-longest tenured head coach in the NFL, only behind Pittsburgh's Mike Tomlin. After serving as the Ravens' coach for nearly two decades, it will be a big adjustment for Baltimore to have someone else under center.

Harbaugh will almost certainly be a candidate in this year's head coaching cycle, even if he was just fired by the Ravens. The 63-year-old has a 180-113 record and led Baltimore to the postseason in all but six of his seasons at the helm.

There are six coaching jobs open, excluding the Ravens, and it won't be a surprise if Harbaugh is getting interview requests for those positions immediately.
