Seahawks' Kubiak Reportedly Eyed for HC Interviews, Potential Landing Spots Revealed

Andrew PetersJan 6, 2026

The Seattle Seahawks have a popular head coaching candidate on their staff ahead of the NFL playoffs.

Per Albert Breer of the MMQB, offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak has received interview requests from the New York Giants, Arizona Cardinals, Las Vegas Raiders and Atlanta Falcons for their vacant head coach openings.

Breer noted that Kubiak will take "a day or two and figure out a plan to balance all of it" with his focus on the postseason.

Kubiak got his start in the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings, serving as an offensive quality control coach from 2013 to 2014. He then spent a season as Kansas' wide receiver coach before joining the Denver Broncos in 2016 as an offensive assistant.

Kubiak rejoined the Vikings in 2019, this time as a quarterbacks coach. He was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2021. After another stop with the Broncos and a season with the San Francisco 49ers, Kubiak took over as the New Orleans Saints' offensive coordinator in 2024, but was hired by the Seahawks last offseason.

The interest in Kubiak was to be expected after the season he helped Seattle have. The Seahawks had the eighth-most yards per game (351.4) and the third-most points per game (28.4) in 2025.

Quarterback Sam Darnold had a tremendous first year in Seattle, throwing for the fifth-most yards (4,048) and the ninth-most touchdowns (25). His favorite target, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, had a career year with the fourth-most receptions (119), the most yards (1,793) and the 10th-most touchdowns (10) in the NFL.

Behind a strong offense, the Seahawks earned the top seed in the NFC and look like legitimate Super Bowl contenders heading into the year.

Kubiak, 38, still hasn't held a head coaching job in the NFL, but it seems he could get his first opportunity to lead a team in 2026. The Athletic's Dianna Russini noted Kubiak as one of the top head coaching candidates in this year's cycle last month.

With seven openings already and possibly more coming, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Kubiak named a head coach in the coming weeks.
