Maxx Crosby Reacts to Pete Carroll's Firing, Trade, Injury Drama & Raiders' No. 1 Pick

Mike ChiariJan 6, 2026

Superstar pass-rusher Maxx Crosby addressed several aspects of the Las Vegas Raiders' disappointing 2025 season, including Monday's firing of head coach Pete Carroll.

Appearing on the Let's Go! podcast (beginning at the 23:30 mark), Crosby gave his thoughts on Carroll's dismissal after just one season on the job.

Crosby called the situation "kind of gloomy," and noted that he hasn't "had time to really process it."

However, Crosby went on to praise Carroll and wished the 74-year-old veteran well moving forward.

"But I will say, you know, the one thing I did admire about Pete is he was as consistent as they come," Crosby said. "He has won for such a long time. He is a Super Bowl champion. He won a national championship at USC. He has been an incredible coach, and he has had an incredible journey. So unfortunately this thing didn't work out the way we expected it but he has done an incredible job and had an incredible career, and he was always awesome to me.

"Still gonna have that relationship regardless. Had a lot of coaches in my time to say the least, but all of those coaches, you take something from 'em, you learn something from 'em. And just we're back to the process again and trying to figure out whatever that's gonna be. I wish him the best. Like I said, he was always incredible to me and treated me amazing. Big shout out to Coach Pete and we'll see what happens next."

Crosby was shut down for the final two weeks of the season due to a knee injury, and it was reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter that the injury would require surgery.

However, Crosby said this week that surgery is not a guarantee, and he noted that he was set to meet with famed surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache to discuss his options.

At 3-14, the Raiders finished with the worst record in the NFL, securing the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft in the process.

Crosby called it an "extremely tough" season, but he suggested that it helped him grow as a person and player since it presented him with the opportunity to overcome adversity.

With 73 tackles and 10 sacks, Crosby was named a Pro Bowler for the fifth consecutive season, and he did it despite battling a knee ailment for much of the campaign.

While Crosby has been the subject of trade rumors in recent years, he declined to make any type of declaration regarding his hopes for the future, opting instead to focus on his injury and recovery.
