Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders reacted to the news of head coach Kevin Stefanski's firing on Monday while speaking to reporters in his exit interview.

"We just found out a couple seconds ago," Sanders said. "I think just over the mentality is like, things are gonna happen, that's just how the league is, and moving forward, just focusing on what we can improve individually for the next head coach."

Sanders went on to indicate that Browns players initially weren't aware of the decision to fire Stefanski, saying, "I think social media informed the players first." He was asked if team owner Jimmy Haslam addressed the team, and he declined to answer the question.

The first-year signal-caller was also asked what he feels the Browns will need from their next head coach, and he replied, "I could just focus on me. I could just focus on what I could do and getting better, and the players and the teammates that we got. When it comes to those grown-up decisions, that's not me."

Sanders called his rookie season "a good learning year." He made eight appearances and took over as Cleveland's starting quarterback for the final seven games, helping to lead the team to back-to-back wins to close out the season. He produced 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions while also adding a rushing touchdown.

Sanders was later asked about how members of the offensive staff like offensive coordinator Tommy Rees and quarterbacks coach Bill Musgrave helped his development and if he would like to see them stick around, and he reiterated, "See, now you're trying to get me in sticky business. I can't make decisions on the coaching, who's coming, who's not."

The upcoming offseason will be crucial for Sanders, as he will have to prove to a new head coach that he can be the Browns' franchise quarterback going forward.
