Giants' Cam Skattebo, Malik Nabers Update Injury Timelines on Video After NFL Season
Following the conclusion of the New York Giants' 2025 season, running back Cam Skattebo and wide receiver Malik Nabers provided updates Monday on the injuries that cut their campaigns short.
Speaking to reporters, Skattebo laid out a potential timeline for his return, noting that while he would like to be back in time for OTAs, it isn't necessarily cause for concern if it takes him a bit longer.
"Training camp is obviously the goal, that's the long goal," Skattebo said. "Hopefully get back by OTAs, but if not, there's no rush to it."
ESPN's Jordan Raanan reported in October that Skattebo dislocated his ankle, ruptured his deltoid ligament and suffered an open tibia fracture during a Week 8 game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Nabers, who tore his ACL in Week 4, expressed uncertainty regarding whether he will be ready to play Week 1 of the 2026 regular season, saying, "Not really sure. If my body doesn't feel right, then I'm not gonna go out there."
A 2025 fourth-round pick out of Arizona State, Skattebo had taken over as the Giants' starting running back prior to getting injured, and he was firmly in the running for Offensive Rookie of the Year honors.
In eight games, including five starts, Skattebo rushed for 410 yards and five touchdowns, while also catching 24 passes for 207 yards and two additional scores.
As for Nabers, the 2024 No. 6 overall pick out of LSU was off to a great start after posting 109 receptions for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie.
In four games before tearing his ACL, Nabers registered 18 grabs for 271 yards and two touchdowns.
While Skattebo and Nabers were on the shelf, the Giants fired head coach Brian Daboll amid a 2-8 start to the season, replacing him with Mike Kafka on an interim basis.
Skattebo was asked about Daboll's firing on Monday, and he had positive things to say about his former head coach.
"I'm not gonna really comment on that," Skattebo said. "I love Dabes. He's a great guy, a great coach. He gave me the opportunity to be here and somebody that I'm always gonna look up to. He was my first coach in the NFL and he taught me a lot about football."
Despite his admiration for Daboll, Skattebo noted that he is "excited for the future," as the Giants prepare to embark on a head coaching search.
New York went only 4-13 this season, but there is plenty of reason for optimism, especially because of the young talent present on offense.
In addition to Skattebo, the Giants boast 2025 first-round pick Jaxson Dart at quarterback and Nabers at wide receiver.
Also, wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson had a career year in 2025 with 92 catches for 1,014 yards and four touchdowns, as did tight end Theo Johnson with 45 receptions for 528 yards and five touchdowns.
All of those players are 25 years old or younger, which suggests there is a ton of room for growth, provided the front office makes the right decision with its next head coaching hire.
