The news emerges after United and PSG met in the International Champions Cupย in the early hours of Thursday. Afterward, the French sideโs boss, Laurent Blanc, claimed a deal between the two clubs was โclose," while Red Devils manager Louis van Gaalย admitted he was unsure where Di Maria was, per Ian Ladyman of the MailOnline.

For Di Maria, itโs disappointing things didnโt work out in the Premier League. After a scintillating start to life in a United shirt, the midfielder struggled for form and fitness.
As Van Gaalโs side improved in the latter stages of the season, the Argentina international found himself regularly on the bench.
Harry Sherlock of Goal pulled no punches in his assessment of Di Mariaโs time at Old Trafford:
But there are plenty who would have been willing to give the player a further chance in the Premier League.
After all, the midfielder had a turbulent time off the pitch too, with his Cheshire home targeted by would-be burglars earlier this year, per BBCย News.

As we can see here, courtesy of OptaJoe, Di Maria was a very creative player when he was on the field:
It seems like his fling with United is over, though. Pedro has been tipped as a player who could potentially fill the void left by Di Maria's departure, per Sky Sports.ย Bleacher Reportโs Andy Brassellย recently spoke about whether thatโll be the case:
Van Gaal has very strict criteria when it comes to players. One of the things the Dutchman demands is organisation, not only in defence but attacking areas too.
Sadly for Di Maria, for all the extraordinary qualities he possesses, positional discipline is not one of them, and that became more and more apparent as the season went on.
The effervescent early glimpses Di Maria showcased at United tantalised, leaving some of those at Old Trafford lamenting the playerโs seemingly impending departure.
But to recoup such a sizeable amount for someone who endured a torrid time represents excellent business for the Red Devils, and should a new signing emerge as a new hero, the Argentina man will be quickly forgotten.
