LeBron James, Patrick Mahomes, More Hype Myles Garrett After Breaking NFL Sack Record

The Cleveland Browns defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 20-18 to finish their regular season on Sunday, but the final score was not what everyone was focused on in the aftermath.

Instead, it was Myles Garrett setting the single-season sack record with his 23rd of the campaign.

Other than Cleveland actually winning, Garrett set the record in a game that was emblematic of its season as a whole.

The defense was largely excellent while scoring two touchdowns, holding the Bengals to fewer than 20 points and sacking Joe Burrow twice. Even when Garrett didn't get to Burrow or the running backs, his presence forced the Bengals to shift more linemen his way and open up lanes for his teammates.

But the Cleveland offense was terrible as no running back finished with more than 32 rushing yards and Shedeur Sanders went an ugly 11-of-22 for 111 yards, zero touchdowns and zero interceptions while being sacked six times.

There remain a ton of long-term question marks about the Browns after a 5-12 season, including who will be the quarterback of the future, but Garrett was still able to play at a historic level in 2025 as he added a record to his already incredible resume.

The Texas A&M product is a seven-time Pro Bowler who won the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year and is a lock to win the award for a second time for his record-setting effort this season.

Garrett also reached double-digit sacks for an eighth straight campaign, underscoring his consistency that peaked with this record.

While Garrett, who has played just three playoff games in his career since he was the No. 1 overall pick of the 2017 NFL draft, would surely love if the Browns became more of a contender to fully capitalize on his individual greatness, he will forever be a part of NFL history for his performance this season.
