Holly Holm vs. Stephanie Han Judges' Scorecards, Punch Stats and Prize Money
Stephanie Han successfully defended her WBA lightweight championship with a unanimous technical decision win over Holly Holm on the undercard of Amanda Serrano vs. Reina Tellez.
The bout was called early due to a cut that rendered Han unable to continue fighting as a result of an accidental headbutt from Holm, according to the ringside doctor.
Han was slow to pull the trigger early. After a week of talking about her admiration and respect for Holm, she appeared to be too hesitant and gave Holm the opportunity to take an early lead.
MMA legend Cris Cyborg liked what she saw from Holm's start.
That being said, once Han started throwing her hands it was clear she was on even footing with Holm. She tagged Holm with some clean shots as the action picked up.
Han continued to land her right hand with more regularity than any other punch in the fight. Han was able to keep her opponent off-balance and looked to be in control.
Unfortunately, the competitive fight was cut short due to a cut from an accidental headbutt that left Han bleeding. The ringside doctor called an end to the bout, forcing the early decision.
The win is easily the biggest of Han's career. The 35-year-old captured her title with a first-round knockout win over Hannah Terlep before defending the belt against Paulina Angel, but Holm is one of the most accomplished fighters in combat sports.
Holm was a multi-division champion in boxing before transitioning to MMA where she pulled off one of the most famous upsets in the history of the sport against Ronda Rousey.
She successfully returned to the sport after more than a decade away with a unanimous decision win over Yolanda Vega on the undercard of Jake Paul vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
However, Han proved that she has real championship mettle with a win over the 44-year-old. That should put her in a good position moving forward.
Jake Paul's Most Valuable Promotions continues to prioritize womens' boxing and has now signed WBO champion Terri Harper and WBC titleholder Caroline Dubois. That should make future unification bouts easier to make.
Holm made $100,000 for her return to boxing against Vega in June. It would be safe to assume that this fight put more money in her pocket for this title fight, but it's hard to see her getting a huge payday her next time out after dropping this one to Han.
