Kliff Kingsbury's Commanders Future Updated in NFL Rumors Amid 'Disconnect' With GM
The Washington Commanders reportedly could move on from offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury at the conclusion of the 2025 NFL season even if he doesn't land a head coaching job elsewhere.
According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, Dan Quinn is expected to back as Washington's head coach next season despite going 4-12 in 2025 with one game left to play. However, changes to his coaching staff reportedly remain possible.

Russini noted that there is a "disconnect" between Kingsbury and Commanders general manager Adam Peters, which could potentially lead to his ouster.
When Quinn was hired as head coach of the Commanders last year, he brought in Kingsbury as his OC. Kingsbury was fresh off a four-year stint as head coach of the Arizona Cardinals and one year as an offensive analyst at USC.
While Kingsbury largely struggled with the Cards to the tune of a 28-37-1 record and a single one-and-done playoff appearance, he rebuilt his coaching value last season with the Commanders.
Working with then-rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, Kingsbury helped Washington rank seventh in the NFL in total offense and fifth in scoring offense with 28.5 points per game.
Daniels was named a Pro Bowler and Offensive Rookie of the Year, as he completed 69.0 percent of his passes for 3,568 yards, 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions to go along with 891 rushing yards and six rushing scores.
On top of that, the Commanders won two playoff games, including an NFL Divisional Round upset of the Detroit Lions, to reach the NFC Championship Game where they fell to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Expectations were enormous for 2025 as a result, but nothing has gone according to plan.
A big reason for that is the fact that multiple injuries have limited Daniels to just seven games. However, even when Daniels has played, the Commanders have still struggled, going 2-5 in his starts.
The Commanders are also 2-6 in eight Marcus Mariota starts and 0-1 in one start by journeyman Josh Johnson.
Washington is just 21st in total offense and 25th in scoring offense this season due largely to the turmoil at quarterback, but Kingsbury may not get the benefit of the doubt regardless.
Given what Kingsbury accomplished with Daniels last season, though, it is easy to envision another NFL team with a young quarterback bringing him in to be their head coach or OC in 2026.
