Bo Bichette Contract Rumors on Yankees, Dodgers, Cubs Amid MLB Free Agency

Timothy RappJan 1, 2026

The New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs have reportedly "checked on" free agent infielder Bo Bichette during the free agency period, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

The Toronto Blue Jays already made one of the offseason's biggest splashes, signing starting pitcher Dylan Cease, $210 million earlier in the winter, though whether that takes them out of the running to retain Bichette remains to be seen.

The Boston Red Sox have also been linked to Bichette this winter.

Bichette, 27, hit .311 with 18 homers, 94 RBI, 78 runs and a .840 OPS in 139 games last season, helping lead the Blue Jays to the World Series. He also showed in the postseason that he can play second base after operating as a shortstop for the entirety of his career. That versatility gives him additional value.

As for his potential suitors, the Yankees have been quiet this winter but are in desperate need for an upgrade at shortstop over the beleaguered Anthony Volpe. And the Yankees have also reportedly fielded offers for infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr., which could leave second base open for Bichette if they go that route.

The Cubs don't have an obvious need at either shortstop or second base, with Dansby Swanson and Nico Hoerner already on the roster (though there has also been trade chatter regarding Hoerner). They could also experiment with Bichette at third base if he's signed, and his bat would be welcomed if the team loses Kyle Tucker this winter as expected.

The Dodgers could do the same or simply slide Bichette into their need at second base. The team's biggest splash this offseason was the signing of closer Edwin Díaz, addressing a huge need for reliable bullpen arms, but L.A. is always in the market for a headline-stealing acquisition.
