Backstage WWE Rumors on Dominik Mysterio, Chad Gable and More
The WWE roster avoided a significant injury to one of its most prominent young stars and may be adding an elite in-ring performer back into the fray.
The latest on Dominik Mysterio's injury status and an update on Chad Gable's impending return headline this latest collection of pro wrestling rumors, which also includes a note on the Cody Rhodes-Roman Reigns main events from WrestleMania 39 and 40.
Latest on Dominik Mysterio's Shoulder Injury
1 of 3
Intercontinental champion Dominik Mysterio appeared to suffer a serious shoulder injury at AAA Guerra De Titanes but, according to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, Dirty Dom narrowly avoided disaster.
"WWE sources at the time claimed to Fightful that Dominik sustained a shoulder injury. However, some good news in that WWE sources now claim it doesn't look like he will require surgery. The hope internally is that he will be cleared by Royal Rumble week."
This lines up with what Dave Meltzer had reported for the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, that Mysterio would miss three to four weeks.
Mysterio was a breakout star for WWE in 2025, a performer who grew and evolved into one of the most popular performers on the roster and someone who wrestled against John Cena in three of his last four matches.
A potentially major babyface in the making, Mysterio figures to be in line for big things in 2026 amid mounting tension within The Judgment Day.
Chad Gable Return Update
2 of 3
One of the most gifted in-ring performers in WWE is nearing a return.
Sapp reported for Fightful Select that Chad Gable could be back "very soon." The report states that Gable is expected back by the Royal Rumble and, perhaps, even before that.
Gable suffered a shoulder surgery this past Sunday, which Sapp noted "affected a lot of creative for WWE's summer."
In his absence, Ludwig Kaiser assumed the El Grande Americano character. That storyline development is expected to be addressed upon Gable's return.
Regardless of what form Gable's return to takes, the former 2012 Olympian is an incredible in-ring performer and immensely entertaining from a character standpoint. He was one performer who leapt off the screen beginning with his breakup with Alpha Academy, through his creation of American Made, and into his introduction of Americano.
Having him back at its disposal will be a major benefit for WWE, especially on the road to WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas.
News on Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns WrestleMania 39, 40 Main Events
3 of 3
Following up on a report from Brandon Thurston for Post Wrestling, which included texts from Vince McMahon indicating his involvement in the creative process behind Cody Rhodes' loss to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39, Meltzer reported for Wrestling Observer Radio that it was The Tribal Chief who pitched the idea to beat The American Nightmare in 2023, then lose to him the following year.
The pitch was made with Paul Heyman's help, and both McMahon and Triple H approved it, leading to the shocking conclusion of the first Reigns-Rhodes headliner.
It turned out to be the right call as fans' fervor for Rhodes and his WWE title victory were at an all-time high by the time 2024 rolled around, so much so that the audience demanded that the grandson of a plumber finish his story rather than Reigns squaring off with The Rock in Philadelphia.
It remains to be seen what awaits fans in 2026, but Reigns and Rhodes have teased another showdown on the grand stage, with the former eyeing the latter's title in the closing moments of the Survivor Series: WarGames premium live event this past November.
