Boxer Anthony Joshua Released from Hospital After Injuries from Car Crash in Nigeria

Former two-time heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has been released from the hospital after suffering injuries in a car crash that killed two people in Nigeria earlier this week.

Per the Associated Press, Joshua was discharged on Wednesday after being "deemed clinically fit to recuperate from 'home.'" According to the Associated Press, Joshua was under "observation" at Lagoon Hospital in Lagos after sustaining minor injuries in the accident.

"Anthony and his mother were at the funeral home in Lagos this afternoon to pay their final respects to his two departed friends as they were being prepared for repatriation scheduled for later this evening," Lagos state commissioner for information, Gbenga Omotoso, wrote on social media, per the Associated Press.

CNN's Nimi Princewill reported Monday that Joshua had been involved in a car crash on a busy stretch of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, between Ogun and Lagos. The British boxer is of Nigerian descent and has family ties in Ogun.

The two people killed in the crash were Sina Ghami, Joshua's strength and conditioning coach, and Latif Ayodele, a trainer, according to the AP.

Earlier this month, Joshua defeated Jake Paul in the sixth round via knockout in Miami. The 36-year-old has a career record of 29-4 with 26 knockouts and is a former Olympic gold medalist.
