Tiger Woods Now Eligible for PGA Tour Champions, Will Golf Icon Play on Circuit?

Adam WellsDec 30, 2025

Tuesday is a milestone day for Tiger Woods, who in addition to turning 50 years old will be eligible to play on the PGA Tour Champions.

Per ESPN's Mark Schlabach, Woods can join the circuit that allows golfers to use carts and utilizes a 54-hole format for non-majors instead of the traditional 72-hole tournament format.

Woods' playing future remains uncertain due to his ongoing physical issues. He is still recovering from back surgery in October that left him unable to take part in the Hero World Challenge this month.

In the lead up to the Hero World Challenge, Woods told reporters on Dec. 2 that he "just started" the rehab process that is going to take time given the nature of the procedure he had.

As for whether or not Woods will actually participate on the tour when is recovered, that remains a question no one has an answer to.

Steve Flesch, PGA Tour Champions Player Director, told Jessica Marksbury of Golf.com that Woods' potential participation is something the organization discusses:

"Every meeting we're like, hopefully he plays. Nobody knows. I think we all are in consensus that if he would play, he'd play maybe five [tournaments]. He's certainly not going to play 15, but if we could get 10 out of him, that'd be fantastic. But nobody knows. I mean, we all hope he does. But we also hope if he decides to play that he lets the tournament directors know more than like, the Friday night before the tournament. My guess is he'll play the majors that he can. But nobody really knows."

The 2026 PGA Tour Champions schedule includes 28 events, starting with the Mitsubishi Electric Championship from Jan. 22-24. There are five major championships tournaments, with the Senior PGA Championship kicking things off from April 16-19.

Woods hasn't played at a sanctioned PGA Tour event since the Open Championship in July 2024. The 2025 season marked the first time he hasn't played in a tournament since turning pro in 1996.
