Pete Carroll's Raiders Future Doubted by Insider Amid Race for No. 1 NFL Draft Pick
Pete Carroll's time with the Las Vegas Raiders could be nearing an end after just one season at the helm.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said Monday that he doubts Carroll will be around to help the Raiders potentially make the No. 1 pick in this year's NFL draft.
"Looks like the Raiders will be making the No. 1 overall pick, so they're gonna be on the clock next Sunday," Rapoport said in a social media post. "This can change an organization. It took a lot to get here. We'll see if Pete Carroll's there for it, I doubt it, but we'll see."
The Raiders hired the 74-year-old Carroll last offseason, and his first year has been nothing short of a disappointment. Las Vegas is sitting at 2-14 heading into Sunday's season finale against the Kansas City Chiefs, and a loss would mean the Raiders' first season with less than three wins since 2006.
The only positive to come from this season is that the Raiders can secure the No. 1 pick with a loss on Sunday. Whether Las Vegas will opt to start fresh with a new coach next season remains to be seen.
