Enzo Amore, Bubba Dudley and Latest WWE NXT Developmental News
News of what may be in store for Enzo Amore and Bubba Dudley will have fans of both WWE and NXT pumped.
Amore recently worked alongside the main roster, opportunities that are often precursors to a call-up. Will we see the captivating loudmouth bring his shtick to Raw before long? That thought has the WWE tag team division sounding a lot more fun all of a sudden.
As for Dudley, WWE officials reportedly had plans to incorporate him into the developmental brand.
Seeing Dudley step into the NXT ring against an old foe such as Samoa Joe or a newcomer such as Baron Corbin would have been electric. Those are both still very real possibilities given that WWE reached out to him once.
In other NXT news, officials are reportedly big on a former goalkeeper, a reality TV star wants to try out, and Ring of Honor bosses made sure one of the company's better wrestlers is staying with them.
Bubba Dudley Reportedly Pulls Out of NXT Appearance with Injury
1 of 5A familiar face nearly showed up at Full Sail University. Bubba Dudley was reportedly supposed to show up to NXT, but a blow to the ear forced his plans to change.
PWInsider (h/t Wrestling Inc) reports that Dudley agreed to work with NXT but decided against doing it after suffering an ear injury. Not wanting to have bad matches due to his equilibrium being off, he chose not to compete.
With NXT looking to bring in names from the past a la Rhino and Tommy Dreamer to work with young talent, it's not surprising that officials reached out to Dudley. And although he's getting up there in age (he's 44 now), it's a good bet he'll get another call down the road.
The NXT faithful would welcome him with a roar, and he'd make a good in-ring teacher for some up-and-comer.
Former 'Jersey Shore' Star Says She's Training for Future Tryout
2 of 5Angelina Pivarnick, best known for being a part of MTV's Jersey Shore, has wrestling on the brain. She has made it clear that she wants to be a part of NXT.
Pivarnick tweeted to NXT's Twitter account that she is "gonna start training for tryouts." She also added, "Wrestling is in my blood. Wanna get back out there. I know I have what it takes."
She has previously appeared for TNA, but her in-ring role was minimal. She did express a passion for the business during that time, but it remains to be seen whether WWE officials will take her seriously.
It wouldn't be the first time a Jersey Shore cast member worked for WWE. Her co-star on that show, Nicole Polizzi (aka Snooki), worked a WrestleMania match in 2011.
WWE Reportedly Looking to Make Former Goalkeeper a Superstar
3 of 5Tim Wiese's run-in during a house show in Germany last November may not be the last time he steps into a WWE ring.
The company is reportedly a big supporter of the former goalkeeper for Werder Bremen. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Wrestling Inc), Wiese was in Orlando, Florida, to train this week. The report also notes that WWE wants a German star and that Wiese may be the man for the job even with the company recently signing Axel Tischer.
Wiese is older than the ideal prospect at 33 and has no wrestling background. Still, WWE hasn't stopped being enamored with guys who are well-built and who would make for good action figures.
One would imagine that even if WWE signs Wiese, it would be a long time before we saw him in action. Hugo Knox has been transitioning from the pitch to the ring since December 2013 and has yet to make his way to TV.
NXT Tag Team Works SmackDown Dark Match and Live Event
4 of 5One of NXT's most popular teams may be leaving Full Sail University for a bigger stage.
While names such as Tyler Breeze and Finn Balor are constantly coming up in discussions about who will move to the main roster next, one doesn't hear Colin Cassady and Enzo Amore mentioned nearly as often.
Recent activity, though, suggests that WWE may be considering transplanting the duo's act to Raw and SmackDown.
Amore and Big Cass went up against Brad Maddox and Heath Slater at Tuesday's SmackDown taping, per ProFightDB.com. They also battled against The Ascension at a house show in Odessa, Texas, over the weekend.
This makes one wonder if this was why they didn't win the tag titles and NXT abruptly ended their feud with Blake and Murphy. Keep your eyes on future arena reports. The more of Cass and Amore that we see there, the more likely it is that they start spelling "sawft" out for folks on national TV.
Other News and Notes
5 of 5WWE has one fewer free agent to pluck from the indy circuit. Ring of Honor locked up Roderick Strong to a new deal, as announced on the promotion's website.
Strong tried out for WWE recently. He told Wrestling Inc in June that he has "had some communication with them." Whether that would have led to anything is uncertain.
For now, though, ROH is Strong's home.
As seen on Tuesday's Tough Enough, The Miz has replaced Hulk Hogan as a judge. He ended up using a save on Amanda, opening the door for Mada to get eliminated.
Jim Cornette offered his thoughts on NXT and the wrestling business as a whole in a recent appearance on the Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast.
Cornette said the following about Sami Zayn:
"I always said that his selling was impeccable and he was an amazing athlete, he was very strong for his frame, and he was a wonderful babyface in the ring. I said he needed to ditch the silly mask and the goofy gimmick, he needed to learn to speak and do interviews, and try to get a tan even though his is a red-headed, ginger Muslim from Montreal.
"
Looks like Cornette was right. Zayn has since moved far beyond a comedy character and become a more well-rounded babyface who sits on the top tier of NXT prospects.
Pro Wrestling Torch's arena reports show that Uhaa Nation and Lina Fanene both wrestled at NXT house shows in Miami on Friday and again in West Palm Beach, Florida, the next day. Lina teamed up with Eva Marie both times. We'll see if that's a duo that makes its way to TV at some point.
Uhaa has yet to wrestle a televised match for NXT but has appeared (without his name being mentioned) in a vignette.
