Battling for the potential No. 1 seed in the NFC, Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers defeated the Chicago Bears 42-38 at home Sunday.
Purdy finished with 303 passing yards and three touchdowns, added two rushing scores and threw one interception while completing 24-of-33 passes. He connected with Jauan Jennings, Jake Tonges and Kyle Juszczyk for touchdowns. Christian McCaffrey added 140 yards rushing and a score.

Caleb Williams threw for 330 yards and two touchdowns while completing 25-of-42 passes. He connected with Luther Burden III for a touchdown and 138 yards and Colston Loveland for another score. D'Andre Swift finished with 54 yards rushing.
The strong performances from both quarterbacks sparked reactions across social media.
In an offensive showcase, the 49ers edged the Bears 32-26 in first downs and went 7-of-10 on third downs, while Chicago finished 6-of-12. The teams combined for 936 total yards of offense as both quarterbacks traded scores throughout the game.
San Francisco took a 28-21 lead into halftime, with the teams combining for 484 yards in the first half. Both sides scored on their lone possessions in the third quarter.
After holding Chicago to a field goal, the 49ers scored with just over two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter to take a four-point lead.
The Bears scored on every drive of the second half and nearly pulled off a game-winning drive, as a hook-and-ladder play left them at the San Francisco 2-yard line with five seconds remaining. However, they were unable to convert on the final scramble throw.
The Chicago Bears entered Sunday's matchup having already clinched a playoff spot and the NFC North title despite falling to 11-5.
The San Francisco 49ers entered the matchup locked in a race for the NFC West title with the Seattle Seahawks (13-3). Seattle and San Francisco(12-4) remain on track for what will be a winner-take-all showdown for the division crown.
San Francisco will close the regular season against Seattle next week, while Chicago will host Detroit.
