Philip Rivers Doesn't Have 'Any Regrets' About NFL Return After Colts Miss Playoffs

Timothy RappDec 28, 2025

The Indianapolis Colts were officially eliminated from playoff contention on Saturday after the Houston Texans beat the Los Angeles Chargers.

But Philip Rivers has no regrets about coming out of retirement in an effort to salvage Indy's campaign after Daniel Jones suffered a season-ending injury, as he told reporters Sunday:

The Colts started the season 8-2 and looked like a legitimate contender in the AFC. But Sunday's 23-17 loss against the Jacksonville Jaguars was the team's sixth straight defeat. With nothing to play for in Week 18 against the Houston Texans, it remains to be seen if the 44-year-old Rivers will play.

He was more than serviceable in his return from a four-year retirement, throwing for 544 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions in three games. The Colts simply crumbled when the schedule got tougher, going 2-7 against teams who have either clinched a playoff berth or are still in the postseason hunt.
