NFL Rumors on DK Metcalf's $45M Guarantees, Steelers Contract amid 2-Game Suspension
DK Metcalf's $45 million in guarantees and future with the Pittsburgh Steelers could have been in jeopardy because of his two-game suspension stemming from an altercation with a fan during a game against the Detroit Lions, but he reportedly no longer has to worry about that possibility.
"Because he got suspended, the Steelers could have basically taken back all his guarantees," Fox Sports' Jay Glazer reported Sunday (1:38 mark). "They, however, have decided not to do that. They're sticking with DK. They don't want to do something like that. They want to make a long-term commitment."

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Pittsburgh's decision isn't particularly surprising, as NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Tuesday "both sides are moving forward together" with the AFC North team reaffirming its "commitment" to the receiver despite the possible avenue to void those guarantees.
The altercation happened during Pittsburgh's 29-24 win over Detroit during their Week 16 matchup.
"Video showed Metcalf approaching a male fan wearing a blue wig in the front row at Ford Field, grabbing him by the shirt and then swiping upward," the NFL's announcement that the suspension would be upheld upon appeal explained. "It was unclear if Metcalf struck the fan."
This is Metcalf's first season with Pittsburgh, and both the player and team surely want it to be a long-term partnership since he is signed through the 2029 campaign.
He has also been the team's most productive wide receiver by a large margin with 59 catches for 850 yards and six touchdowns. No other wide receiver on the team has more than 28 catches, 317 receiving yards or two touchdown catches entering play Sunday.
The timing of the suspension is less than ideal for the team chasing an AFC North title.
Thanks to the Baltimore Ravens' win over the Green Bay Packers on Saturday, the Steelers have to either win or tie the Cleveland Browns during Sunday's contest to avoid a Week 18 matchup against Baltimore for the AFC North crown.
Metcalf will not be available in either game because of the punishment, meaning his next appearance will either be in the playoffs or next season depending on how the end of the 2025 campaign unfolds.
