Myles Garrett Says Setting Sack Record vs. 'Legendary' Aaron Rodgers Would Be Special

Julia StumbaughDec 26, 2025

Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett feels it would be "special" to break the NFL's single-season sack record against Aaron Rodgers in Sunday's Week 17 matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Garrett is heading into the Week 17 matchup with 22.0 sacks, just half a sack shy of the single-season record set by Michael Strahan in 2001 and tied by T.J. Watt in 2021.

"It'd be special. He's legendary himself, and it's a legendary record I'm here chasing," Garrett said when asked Friday about breaking the record against Rodgers. "That'd be a great one to put a picture on the wall with."

There's still a chance Garrett won't be seeing Rodgers again this regular season, however.

The Steelers could clinch the NFC North if the Baltimore Ravens lose Saturday night to the Green Bay Packers, and head coach Mike Tomlin acknowledged earlier this week that a lack of playoff ramifications could potentially impact his decision to field starters.

Should Tomlin decide to sit Rodgers, Garrett could be tasked with sacking Steelers backup Mason Rudolph instead. Rudolph and Garrett famously clashed during a brawl in the final seconds of a November 2019 matchup between the Browns and Steelers.

"I don't think there's a lot of history between the two of us," Garrett said Friday when asked about Rudolph. "But whether I get it against him or I get it against Aaron makes no difference to me, as long as it gets got."

Garrett has 13 career sacks in 15 games against the Steelers, including five sacks in his last two matchups, although he has yet to record one on Rodgers.

If the Ravens defeat the Packers to stay alive Saturday night in the race for the division title, he may get another chance to take down Rodgers when the Week 17 matchup kicks off Sunday at 1 p.m. ET in Cleveland.

Watt won't be on the field to see whether his shared record gets broken. The linebacker, who has been sidelined since undergoing Dec. 11 surgery on a partially collapsed lung, was ruled out for Week 17 on the Steelers' Friday injury report.
