Dak Prescott, KaVontae Turpin Make NFL History with 86-Yard TD in Christmas Game

Adam WellsDec 25, 2025

The Dallas Cowboys tandem of Dak Prescott and KaVontae Turpin provided fans with a holiday treat in the second quarter of their Christmas Day game against the Washington Commanders.

Turpin caught an 86-yard touchdown pass from Prescott, marking the longest touchdown play in a Christmas Day game in NFL history.

Turpin is primarily known for his work as a returner on special teams, which has earned him two Pro Bowl nods in 2022 and '24. He has gotten more action at wide receiver in the past two seasons, recording a career-high 31 catches and 420 yards in 2024.

Including the Prescott-Turpin score in the history books is a little bit of a cheat because the NFL has only played 32 games on Dec. 25 entering this season, but there have been some historic games generated within that limited sample size.

Alvin Kamara tied a league record with six touchdowns for the New Orleans Saints in a 52-33 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Christmas Day in 2020.

The 86-yard score in the second quarter on Thursday was Turpin's only catch of the first half, but he certainly made it count by entering the NFL record books.
