Week 1 Match to Watch: Brian Cage vs. The Mack
There are three matches on the card for the first night of Ultima Lucha, but none have created as much buzz as the war between Brian Cage and The Mack.
After Cage destroyed his challenger in a backstage segment earlier this season, Mack has earned two consecutive victories over his foe. Now, the two men settle their differences in a Falls Count Anywhere match that promises to be brutal.
Lucha Underground head honcho Dario Cueto stated last week that the men would have free reign over the building and that all the weapons and items of destruction he can find will be placed in and around the ring.
Cage was recently a guest on Ring Rust Radio (quotes courtesy of the News of Delaware County's Joe Arcidiacono), where he spoke about Ultima Lucha and his match against Mack:
"I think the reason they made it two weeks long is because my match is going to be so epic and will be an episode in its own right. Ultima Lucha itself will be awesome and I feel every week of Lucha Underground is amazing. I don't want to sound boring or cookie cutter and say expect more of the same, but really the wrestling is awesome and the matches are so great. It's going to be the culmination of everything up to this point and what you would expect from a season finale. Mack and I are going to tear the roof off of the place. We have had a couple of good ones though they were short and sweet. This time we will get to put it all out there and have a great match and I don't think it is going to disappoint.
"
What makes this bout so anticipated is the physical gifts both competitors possess. On one hand, Cage is a genetic freak who resembles Brock Lesnar (dubbed Lucha Lesnar) but wrestles by using his athleticism, speed and strength. When you see Cage wrestle, you will wonder how a man his size can pull off those moves.
On the other hand, Mack will shock you for different reasons. With a pot belly and a nontraditional wrestling physique, Mack is also an athletic wonder who can hit standing moonsaults and dives using his own blend of speed, athleticism and fearlessness.
As great as the bitter battle between these two men will be, there must be a winner. After watching The Mack earn the first two victories in the series, expect a longer match at Ultima Lucha and for Cage to pull off the decisive victory.
Predicted Winner: Brian Cage
Week 2 Match to Watch: Prince Puma vs. Mil Muertes
Arguably the most anticipated match of the entire season is the Lucha Underground Championship bout between titleholder Prince Puma and No. 1 contender Mil Muertes on Night 2 of Ultima Lucha.
Puma earned the title early in the season to become the first-ever Lucha Underground champion, but he has never faced a test as tough as Mil Muertes. The No. 1 contender is a monster whom Catrina raised from the dead in the storyline.
In reality, Muertes is an experienced wrestler who has thrived in the biggest moments of his career. With the strength and power of the challenger and the speed and athleticism of the champion, this should be a unique blend of styles that results in a marquee title match.
As great as Prince Puma has been, death—and the trios team of the Disciples of Death—being on Mil Muertes' side will be too much to overcome for the champion. Fans should be ready for the realistic possibility of a title change.
The stage has been set for a great in-ring battle that will likely culminate in a victory for Mil Muertes thanks to Catrina and her power over the men around her. Add in the fact that Puma's mentor, Konnan, was taken out via a brutal attack, and the odds have been stacked against the Champion at Ultima Lucha.
Unlike John Cena, though, Puma will not overcome the odds and should take the loss. A defeat isn't so bad for Prince Puma, who can now climb the ranks again in Season 2 to regain the championship.
Predicted Winner: Mil Muertes
