Giants DL Coach Andre Patterson Reveals Prostate Cancer Diagnosis

Scott PolacekDec 23, 2025

New York Giants defensive line coach Andre Patterson revealed to ESPN's Jordan Raanan that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer earlier this year and remained with the team while undergoing treatment.

Members of the defensive line found out about the diagnosis in the spring.

Patterson also said his overall outlook is positive, and he feels better with the season progressing.

"Make sure you get checked," he said while explaining he made his diagnosis public to promote the importance of early detection with prostate cancer.

"There's no drop-off. So he's still the same dude," defensive tackle Roy Robertson-Harris said. "If he didn't tell us anything, we wouldn't have known. That's what kind of dude he is. There's no drop-off. Like I said, he's the same guy every day.

"If he never told us anything, we wouldn't have known anything. We wouldn't be able to tell."

While Patterson declined the opportunity to take a leave of absence after his diagnosis, former assistant defensive line coach Bryan Cox filled in on occasion during the season. Cox has since been fired.

This is Patterson's 21st season as a defensive line coach in the NFL and his fourth with the Giants.

He was previously on staffs for the New England Patriots, Minnesota Vikings, Dallas Cowboys, Cleveland Browns and Denver Broncos.

New York is 2-13 on the season and will face the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday and Dallas Cowboys in Week 18 to complete its 2025 campaign.
