Ravens' John Harbaugh Reacts to Hot-Seat Buzz Amid Race for NFL Playoff Bracket

Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh addressed the possibility his job could be on the line if his team falls short of the playoffs following Sunday's defeat by the New England Patriots.

The Ravens, who dropped to 7-8 with the Week 16 loss, are now at risk of missing the postseason for the first time in four years.

"One thing I've always believed is that, first of all, coaching in any level is a day-to-day job," Harbaugh said when asked Monday for his thoughts on his job security. "Your job is to do the best job you can today... and it's never been about keeping a job."

Harbaugh continued, "I try to do the job, not try to keep the job. Because there's no such thing as having a job. It's just doing the job. And so my focus is on— always, it has been for the last 18 years here, and the last 41 years in coaching... has been to try to do the best job I can today, and fight as hard as I can so the guys have got the best chance to be successful today.

"Anything after today, I'm not thinking about, because it's not given for us to think about. We don't have control over that."

Harbaugh, who has coached the Ravens since 2008 and led his team to a Super Bowl following the 2012 season, is currently in his 18th season with the franchise. The Pittsburgh Steelers' Mike Tomlin is the only longer-tenured coach active in the league.

He heads into Week 17 boasting a 179-112 regular season record (.615 percentage) alongside a 13-11 playoff record.

When asked about what his recent talks have been like with Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti, Harbaugh answered, "Steve has been fantastic."

"He's a great leader. He's supportive," Harbaugh said. "He's also challenging. Steve wants to win, and he wants to be successful. I've been around a lot of competitors, in this job, or even in my family, and there's no bigger competitor than Steve Bisciotti. And that's one of the many things I admire about him and appreciate of him.

"So, he's been great. He's been challenging, in every great kind of way. And I appreciate that, and he helps me to be better. And that's what I'm grateful for."

Harbaugh was then asked if he had received any promises from Bisciotti regarding his future with the franchise.

"The future is today. The future is the Green Bay Packers," Harbaugh answered.

The Ravens are preparing to take on the Packers at Lambeau Field during a Week 17 matchup this Saturday.

Baltimore has gone to the playoffs a dozen times in Harbaugh's first 17 seasons with the franchise, although the team will need both to win out and receive help to make another trip in 2025.

That could be an even more difficult task given the uncertainty surrounding the health of star quarterback Lamar Jackson, who exited the Ravens' Week 17 loss after suffering a back injury.

Harbaugh told reporters Monday that Jackson had suffered a back contusion and is now considered day-to-day. Whether he is available to play Saturday will impact Harbaugh's hopes of leading his team into a fourth straight postseason.
