McShay Predicts 2027 NFL Draft Will Have '1 of the Greatest QB Classes' in NFL History

Perhaps NFL teams that need long-term answers at quarterback should wait until 2027 to draft one.

"It's shaping up to be potentially one of the greatest quarterback classes in the history of the NFL draft," NFL draft analyst Todd McShay said of the quarterbacks who could be available in the 2027 NFL draft (50-second mark).

He called the class "sensational" and listed Arch Manning, Julian Sayin, DJ Lagway, LaNorris Sellers, Jayden Maiava and Aidan Chiles as potential difference-makers.

"There's a handful of others as well that are all going to be, if not first-round, first couple rounds," McShay added.

It is a head-turning statement from someone who has analyzed NFL drafts and prospects for years. And it could also factor in the decision-making process of quarterbacks such as Oregon's Dante Moore and Alabama's Ty Simpson who could enter the 2026 NFL draft.

If they know there are so many signal-callers who could be first-round prospects in the following draft, they may be more likely to go into this year's draft and have an opportunity to be among the first two or three players selected at their position.

From the team perspective, having such a loaded quarterback class looming a year down the line could also encourage more front offices to focus on building their rosters at other positions in the 2026 class with the idea they will take one of the highly regarded signal-callers in 2027.

That could also lead to more journeyman veterans receiving one-year deals from teams looking to plug the quarterback position with a short-term solution before drafting their next possible franchise cornerstone in 2027.

For now, the latest mock draft from B/R's NFL Scouting Department projected Fernando Mendoza, Simpson and Moore as first-round picks in the 2026 draft. 

But those teams that could draft them at least have next year to think about as another variable.
