Shedeur Sanders Discusses Building on 'Foundation' Amid NFL Rookie Season with Browns

Andrew PetersDec 17, 2025

Shedeur Sanders hasn't had an ideal rookie year, but he knows it can only get better from here.

He called 2025 "the foundation" and said he plans to build from it.

"I get excited knowing I'm able to face those challenges, because you got to understand, this year right here, it's the worst it's going to be," Sanders told reporters Wednesday. "... This [is] the foundation. This is where I'm building from. This is where I'm understanding different things. This [is] where everything's translating for me. So I'm excited about it. You know, I'm extremely excited about it, because I know. I know we're going to get them. I know we're going to get them eventually."

After sliding to the fifth round of the NFL draft, Sanders rode the bench until Week 11, when he made his NFL debut in relief for a concussed Dillon Gabriel. Sanders then earned the starting nod the following week and impressed, throwing for 209 yards, a touchdown and an interception.

Through his first four starts, Sanders has shown flashes of potential while also facing his fair share of struggles. Two weeks ago against the Tennessee Titans, he had 364 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. He followed that up with the worst game of his young career against the Chicago Bears.

Sanders will start the final three games of the season for the Browns, which will give him the chance to establish some consistency before his second campaign.
