Rams OC, Puka Nacua Hype WR to Replace Davante Adams, Fantasy Target Amid Injury?
With the possibility that Davante Adams won't play in Thursday's pivotal game against the Seattle Seahawks due to a hamstring strain, fantasy players have some questions about who might be the Los Angeles Rams' No. 2 target in the passing game behind Puka Nacua.
Konata Mumpfield might be a sneaky name to monitor, based on how the Rams are talking about him this week.
"It'll take all 11 (starters) as it always does every single week," Nacua told reporters when talking about replacing Adams' impact. "But it'll be a great opportunity for all of the young guys and especially Mumpfield, who has been behind him and watching him and is someone we see as Tae's apprentice."
"He's been out there and shown it's not too big for him," offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur added of Mumpfield. "He's played a lot of football dating back to starting against Jacksonville when we were over in Europe. You trust him. The quarterback trusts him. The coaches trust him. His teammates trust him. He's a rookie just by obviously being a rookie, but he doesn't conduct himself that way when he's on the field or how he conducts himself around this building."
The 23-year-old rookie hasn't had much of an impact for the Rams to this point, catching just five passes for 42 yards and a touchdown. But he did take the majority of the snaps out wide in Adams' normal spot after the veteran left Sunday's game.
Fellow wideout Tutu Atwell is a more experienced option and tight end Colby Parkinson is likely to play an even more pronounced role in the red zone if Adams misses Thursday's tilt. And Mumpfield's lack of production to this point makes him basically impossible to trust from a fantasy perspective unless you are truly desperate.
But he may be a player worth monitoring going forward if Adams' injury keeps him out again next week, and certainly into the future.
