Barcelona Transfer News: Latest Marco Reus Rumours, Gerson Terms Agreed
Barcelona look set to miss out on the signing of Borussia Dortmund forward Marco Reus after his representatives said he is happy at the Bundesliga club.
Reus signed a new contract with Dortmund back in February, tying him to the club until 2019, per the Guardian.
However, there remained numerous reports that Barca were still keen to sign him up, which is unsurprising given his immense quality, per Mundo Deportivo (h/t Joe Short in the Express).
Now, though, the 26-year-old German's future at Dortmund has been confirmed by his representatives, per football writer Omid Zamani:
Reus will be a key player for Dortmund under new manager Thomas Tuchel next season as they look to return to the top of German football having finished seventh in the Bundesliga last term.
He is already looking in fine form and scored a terrific goal in a 2-0 pre-season friendly defeat of Juventus on Saturday, per BT Sport Football:
Reus has likely made a good move in not switching to Barca, as it is unclear where he could have fit in Luis Enrique's attack, with Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar all but impossible to displace.
However, Barcelona may be in need of added attacking depth soon, as Pedro may be on his way to Manchester United, per Sky Sports.
One likely addition in the midfield at the Catalan giants is 18-year-old Brazilian Gerson, to whom Barca have first rights after paying Fluminense €3.2million (£2.3 million) in May for the pleasure, per Sport's Joaquim Piera.
According to Piera, all that needs to be ironed out now is the fee after Barca blocked Juve's approaches and agreed a five-year deal to sign the youngster.
Apparently, the fee will be somewhere in the region of €15 million and €20 million (£10.6 million and £14.2 million) for the exciting, powerful, Paul Pogba-esque midfielder:
All that needs to be decided is whether Gerson will move to the Camp Nou in January—when Barca's transfer ban is lifted—or wait until next summer and stay at Fluminense in the meantime.
It might be advisable for Gerson to stay in Brazil and continue his development before joining the daunting world of Barcelona. However, he is clearly an exciting talent, and Barca have worked hard to make sure they sign him.
