Manchester United Transfer News: Shock Angel Di Maria Fee, Latest Pedro Rumours
Manchester United look primed for more activity in the summer transfer window with Angel Di Maria set to depart and Barcelona's Pedro on his way to Old Trafford.
However, the long-rumoured switch for Di Maria to Paris St-Germain could yet take a while to go through after the Ligue 1 champions came in with an initial low offer.
According to MailOnline's Kieran Gill and Ian Ladyman, PSG's first offer for the Argentine was only €40 million (£28.4 million), a huge reduction on the £59.7 million United paid Real Madrid for Di Maria last summer.
While United are unlikely to recoup all the money they paid for the winger, there is surely no possibility of them accepting less than £30 million.
Indeed, the Mirror's David McDonnell suggested United are demanding a more believable £45 million.
Either way, it seems Di Maria's departure from Manchester is all but guaranteed, as PSG boss Laurent Blanc is confident of getting his man, per Gill and Ladyman: "In the Di Maria case, the whole thing is close to being over. I'm rather positive about it."
The 27-year-old had a difficult first season at Old Trafford and is seemingly unsettled in Manchester, hence why United may be willing to sell him on.
He started brilliantly but became increasingly ineffective on the pitch as he was often outmuscled. He and his family were also unsurprisingly unsettled by an attempted burglary at their Cheshire home.
His imminent departure from the Premier League is a shame for English football, as at Real Madrid, Di Maria was one of the most exciting players in world football.
| Player | Di Maria (Premier League) | Pedro (La Liga) |
| Appearances | 27 | 35 |
| Minutes | 1,645 | 1,531 |
| Goals | 3 | 6 |
| Assists | 10 | 6 |
| Pass success percentage | 77.8 | 86.9 |
However, United look to have a replacement lined up in the shape of Barcelona forward Pedro, who is set to be allowed to leave the Camp Nou after becoming increasingly sidelined, per McDonnell.
Spanish outlet Marca reported that Barca manager Luis Enrique is against the transfer as he does not want to lose Pedro while the club remain under their transfer ban.
However, both McDonnell and Marca indicate that United's interest in the 27-year-old is real and suggest they are willing to shell out up to €32 million (£22 million) for the Spaniard.
As noted by Bleacher Report's Andy Brassell, Pedro would not be a direct replacement for Di Maria, as he usually takes up a more advanced role:
Pedro would bring versatility, goals and desire to United having been usurped by forward trio Luis Suarez, Neymar and Lionel Messi at Barca.
Along with Wayne Rooney and Memphis Depay, he could potentially forge a lethal attacking force that could drive United toward the Premier League title next season.
While Di Maria's potential departure is a shame considering his immense quality, he is clearly not happy at United, and Pedro could prove a much more effective player in the Premier League.
